What is a Charrette?
A charrette is a collaborative design and planning workshop where stakeholders and the community have a chance to learn what’s happening in the Specific Plan area and provide input. During the charrette, a multidisciplinary team of planners, architects and engineers will collaborate with citizens, City staff and City officials to help bring forth a vision that will direct the long-term improvement and future of Sonoma Boulevard. The ideas and concepts for Sonoma Boulevard, developed during the Charrette, will ultimately translate into the goals, policies, objectives and actions in the Specific Plan.
Why you should Attend
The charrettes are for the purpose of moving forward with the 2013 Corridor Design Plan’s recommendations and getting into the details of implementing those ideas. Over the course of the charrette, important decisions about the character and scale of development along the Sonoma Boulevard Corridor are made. Residents with an opinion are invited to come to the public events and let their voices be heard. The charrettes allow you to have a direct hand in the planning process, and watch as detailed design proposals are created. Attendees include property owners, business owners, neighbors, general community members, decision makers, and members of special interest groups. The results of the charrette process will directly impact the direction of the development along Sonoma Boulevard.
