With the launch of the Propel Vallejo mobile app, the City of Vallejo is continuing to expand the ways that community members can connect with each other and local decision-makers. One of the first of its kind even in the digitally-savvy Bay Area, the free app is the latest addition to the City’s cutting-edge arsenal of community engagement tools, which includes See-Click-Fix, Open Town Hall, and Participatory Budgeting.
The app provides a variety of information about Propel Vallejo, which consists of the General Plan Update, Zoning Code Update, and the Sonoma Boulevard Specific Plan. Building on a set of Guiding Principles that Vallejo residents have created, the update of the General Plan and related documents is intended to support a vibrant economy, safe streets, healthy lifestyles, thriving ecosystems, and a sense of community connectedness and pride.
Residents can use the Propel Vallejo app to learn about the City’s plans, post suggestions to an “Idea Wall,” and find out about upcoming events. The app will also soon feature a set of interactive walking tours to encourage community members to visit potential sites for new development and provide written or visual comments.
To help launch the app and find out what the community thinks are its greatest assets, the City is holding a photo contest, where people of all ages are encouraged to submit images of what makes Vallejo special to them, answering the question, “Where is the heart of YOUR Vallejo?” Contest winners, to be selected by a panel of local photographers and community leaders, will receive “Taste of Vallejo” packages with prizes from local businesses, courtesy of the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce.
